TweetPlacing a favicon on your website root directory, will brand your website’s url and be the first image a website visitor sees that represents your brand. If a user has bookmarked your website or a particular page then they should still see your favicon that you have uploaded and linked to on your website. Placing the following code within your <head> of your website pages should link the icon you have uploaded to its rightful place along side your domain name when it has been loaded by someone.
<link rel=”icon” type=”image/x-icon” href=”/favicon.ico” />
Favicon generators are scattered all over the internet in many different fashions. Below is Dynamic Drives favicon generator, which will turn an image of your choice in to a 16×16 pixel .ico file for you to upload to your website. For this set up though we shall utilize favicon.cc’s manual generator which allows you to create your favicon, pixel by pixel on their website and save it to your pc.
Below, favicon.cc allows you to edit each pixel manually. There is a colour chart available next to it which means you are not limited by colour but only by the boundaries of the small amount of pixels.
Here is our attempt at creating a quick icon which represents Autonomous Industry in some way. Below where you create, you will be able to see a preview of your favicon as it should look.
In this example the A and I are both bold enough to be noticed so download the favicon after you are happy.
Save the file to your pc, ideally where you know it will be for a later date. We recommend you have the exact same copy of what you have online on your own pc, so you can swap and change individual files when you need to.
The line of code prompted at the top of this part of the guide is shown highlighted below within your <head></head> on your websites document.
A note to remember, sometimes when your favicon is uploaded and the link to it is new within your websites documents, it can take some time to load.
Its now time to connect to your hosting with your FTP and get ready to upload your new files.
Upload your files to your domains folder, this should only take a few seconds as the files are very small.
Once uploaded, go check your new favicon’s status.
