You can make Open Source your main point to hold the content you put online but most important of all is you own it and can mold it.  We will introduce you to website creation on the next page with an automatic install of the blogging platform, WordPress.

You don’t need to be spending £120 a page for a website, unless you have a good friend who is a web designer.  Instead you can take advantage of the many platforms(Content Management Systems) you can create content on and let your fan’s create content with you and add depth to your domain. They have flexibility as you will find out later.  Owning your own band website will help tremendously with communicating with fans and offering the standards of many marketing strategies that you can set up and then never think about again.

At first update of the guide we will only mention press release type systems such as blogs,  alongside open source forum software to create communities, such as Simple Machines Forums.  Which both will let for a community to grow around you.  The positive note is, the blog presence can be edited in such a way, to give the feel of a fully developed interactive website you had payed for.  There are also plenty of other type of open source content systems.  Majority do their jobs to a high standard but vary with usability and how the content is created. I don’t see any factors yet that make me believe any are as user friendly and quick to set up than what we show you in this guide.

Viscacha.org is an open source mini CMS, which allows a forum/community to grow around a main page.  Thus giving you the look of a website with the bonus of an added community backing it.  See what works with you and your band and let us know of your experiences on the community forum.

Available Open Source Software for your band to install and create any amount and type of media you wish to publish on the internet.
