TweetPress releases are organised in to how news worthy they are. You do not want to be sending a news story such as “band member sneezes” out to big magazine companies. Some other rules to follow if you are to send press releases out to external news aggregators, magazines, radio’s, other blogs etc.
It needs to be newsworthy in the first place, as mentioned above. This can still be under a page of writing so we are not talking about too much time being spent on the initial write up. Make sure it is not blatant promotion for a product or service you have coming out and if it’s a subject which does not come along too often, you can always think of sourcing a professional/expert to write up a better draft for you. There are websites with such people on them, search ‘freelancers’ within a search engine and you should see relevant categories within the sites.
Steps
After a topic has been chosen and you have created some brief notes or a quick draft of the news, you need to go back to the beginning and concentrate first on your headline. If you were reading a paper or magazine, the same rules would apply, your trying to grab their attention as quickly as possible. Since we are dealing with the internet, there is also the ranking of content within your site which was brough up in SEO. Remeber to try and make sure the words are key to your brand.
The next part after the header is a summary of your final content, make it one paragraph, with the summary you can then amend the full story and make sure it gets the point your want across, clearly and concisely. This is also the part you can send to relevant publications. If it’s your usual news, then send it to the following places depending on how big it is.
- You will begin with your own blog or website, from here visitors to the website can share with the plugins or addons to the site which allow sharing features.
- Next will be to e-mail all relevant bloggers in your nieche, here you will be achieving a personal approach to other bands, music blogs et’c and it means future opportunities.
- After the step’s have been achieved, you have all your social media sites that you can then branch off to, just remember to relink to the original which is on your website with every summary you send out.
- On your Facebook fan page, the summary which you made can be put on the wall. Use the heading of the story on Twitter and so on.
- Once this has been done, your final port of call is to send to actual Press Release website’s.If you find any new one’s which are not mentioned below a few pointers for you. The higher the page rank which Google gives them the better they will do for you. Your whole web presence will be that bit stronger if a bot from any search engine see’s a link of your’s on a high ranked website somewhere else. Pagerank four and above is a good starting point.
