Forget the talk of torrents and illegal downloading affecting the music and record industry, think about you and your own publicity.  With reading this guide, you are obviously testing new ways to help yourself become a full time musician.  Torrents are a great way to get your music out there for other people to listen to on mass.

The main thing here is that if your latest releases are on torrent sites then you may as well take control of this.  Your not going to stop these people doing what they are doing but you can at least get involved pro actively and make it easier to find your content.  Filling your music torrent with other digital goodies is good to get their attention so why not put a shortcut to your home page in there too.

Once your torrent has been created, include a weekly report in your analytics showing how many downloads and seeders its accumulated.  You may even encounter listeners posting comments where the torrent files are, you can even think about replying to get a backlink to your site and getting involved with what they have to say.

How to create your torrent using a pc; You can follow the steps closely for those on macs with transmission.  Here are some last minute pointers about creating your torrent that uTorrent mention.

–uTorrent Quote “Before you make a torrent, it would be wise to pick a site and review its policies and rules, which can be found in their FAQ section.

Your site of choice may have restrictions about content; some do not allow porn, some specialize in specific type of content (such as music, or anime).

Your site of choice may also have some specific requirements about content and demand that you add some extras to your torrent such as signature files and ads.

Some public sites require registration for uploading; all private sites do.

It is important to consider the size of your content for two reasons: first, not everyone has sufficient disk space for very large torrents; and second, larger torrents require longer seeding times. In such cases consider making multiple torrents based on some practical partition such as years, season, parts.

Before making your torrent, select your content’s location carefully as it will have to remain there (during initial seeding at least).

The files in your content must not be modified after you have made the torrent, as this would cause corruption in the torrent.

Make sure the files are not in use while you make the torrent.

There is no need to compress multiple files into one archive. Many torrenters find it annoying. It also requires twice the space: once for the original and once for the archive.

You may wish to make a torrent for exclusive distribution among friends and family. In such case, you may choose to distribute your torrent in some other manner.“

2. Select the files and or directories

3. Trackers: This is usually the hardest part for most people. But it’s really simple, just put in one of the popular public trackers. You can use one tracker or more, but in general one is enough.

Here are some good trackers you can use:

http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce

udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

4. Do NOT tick the private torrent box (unless you’re using a private tracker)

5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends
